History

PALLIACCO was founded in October 2003 under the name “The Ultimate Challenge” by Sylvie and Daniel Lachance, owners of a busy ski boutique in Mont-Tremblant. Their primary goal was to build a palliative care residence containing nine beds. However, the founders soon realised that the client base around Mont-Tremblant was insufficient to support such a project in the short or medium term. Meanwhile they discovered that there was a definite need for accompaniment services in the home. Surveys had found that most people preferred to die in their homes, or at least to remain at home for as long a time as possible during their last days.

In 2003, they created the Palliacco Summits Foundation with the mission of providing in-home accompaniment services.

In November 2007, we established our offices and training rooms at 2280 rue Labelle, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Pierre Boivin, a Mont-Tremblant resident.

In 2009 we officially changed the name of our organisation to one derived from the words palliative (PALLI…) and accompaniment (…ACCO), or PALLIACCO.

In 2010 we opened an office in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts to facilitate access to our services for the population of the southern part of the Laurentian MRC.

Since January 2013, PALLIACCO organises “A Trek Under the Stars”, its principal fundraising activity, on the last Saturdays of January each year.
