I am no longer the same woman I was at the beginning of my career. Today, I feel that “being” is slowly taking precedence over “doing.”<\/em> – Nancy Perrier Forget\u00a0<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Nancy Perrier Forget is the Communications Director at Palliacco. After 10\u00a0years as a dedicated employee, she gives us a vibrant testimony of the important lessons she has learned.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ll see \u2026it\u2019s not just a job, it\u2019s a truly inner voyage you will undertake during your time at Palliacco.\u201d<\/p>\n

I have been offering these words to each new colleague for the past 10 years \u2026 as a profoundly genuine promise.<\/p>\n

Ten years of learning how to Be, not just to Do. To slow down, in a world constantly pushing us to go faster.<\/p>\n

To listen to others\u2026 and to listen to myself.<\/p>\n

To take my place and learn to be confident, one step at a time.<\/p>\n

Ten years of working alongside the incredibly good-hearted volunteers, clients and colleagues, who transformed me well beyond my professional role.<\/p>\n

Because here, it is not just a job\u2026it\u2019s a school of life. A continuous, compassionate and sometimes life-changing education.<\/p>\n

Ten years of daring to name what may upset us.<\/p>\n

To start the conversations we too often avoid: about sickness, end-of-life accompaniment, grief.<\/p>\n

Realities that are frightening\u2026 that we sometimes prefer not to discuss.<\/p>\n

And yet\u2026<\/p>\n

Herein lies the beauty of Palliacco: bringing light where there are shadows, offering kindness and listening amidst suffering, and remembering each day, that even in the most fragile moments, life is profoundly present.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Une<\/p>\n

Inspired by the \u201cJeans\u00a0\u201d \u2026 and by Others<\/h4>\n

Over my 10 years at Palliacco, certain people made an indelible mark on my journey.<\/p>\n

There is Jean Desnoyers, our previous Executive Director.<\/p>\n

He took me under his wing and taught me much more than the administration of a non-profit organization. He gave me something much more precious: his trust.<\/p>\n

He took me by the hand, gave me my chance in communications \u2026and he believed in me, long before I was able to do so myself.<\/p>\n

And then there is Jean Sauv\u00e9.<\/p>\n

A man with a very big heart, and a gentle, almost paternal presence.<\/p>\n

With few words, he taught me simply to be, in the here and now\u2026just by being there at my side.<\/p>\n

Not forgetting Marl\u00e8ne\u2014a real fairy god-mother for me over the past 10 years.<\/p>\n

A source of inspiration by her manner of listening, her presence, her common sense and her unique way of savouring life … all the while making every person she meets feel important.<\/p>\n

At Palliacco, every person \u2013employee or volunteer\u2014inspires and touches the others in their own unique way.<\/p>\n

And Now?<\/h4>\n

I\u2019m not the same woman I was when I started. Today, I find that \u201cBeing\u201d is gently taking precedence over \u201cDoing\u201d.<\/p>\n

Over the years I have acquired a rich and precious knowledge set helping me along the road of life \u2026 by being a little more grounded, a little more aware.<\/p>\n

By working in an organization that provides palliative care at home, respite and support to people with cancer, to care-givers and to those in mourning, I have become profoundly aware of the fragility of life.<\/p>\n

But mostly\u2026of its beauty.<\/p>\n

A person\u2019s capacity for adaptation is remarkable.<\/p>\n

Even in the darkest moments, a light\u2014regardless of how faint \u2026. always manages to appear.<\/p>\n

And perhaps this is essentially what Palliacco has taught me: to recognize that light\u2026even when it flickers.<\/p>\n
