At 53, Isabelle Provost believed she had control over her life. Living in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, she was about to launch her musical education project for children. But in April 2025, a diagnosis of rectal cancer radically changed her plans.
“My sister, who had already battled stage 4 breast cancer, was with me when I received the news. But she was the one crying as we left the doctor’s office. She couldn’t imagine that I would also have to go through everything she had experienced,” she recalls.
An Inner Strength

Isabelle faced the diagnosis with resilience. Her very first instinct was to buy herself a rose — a symbol of courage and love for the strong person she knew herself to be. In the same spirit, she decided to shave her head and organize a photo shoot.
“I had always wondered what I would look like with short hair, so I thought this was the perfect time to try it,” she says with a laugh.
The Power of Self-Healing and Personal Growth
Throughout her journey, Isabelle found inspiration in the books Activate Your Healing Power and Radical Remission. While she did not doubt the body’s ability to heal itself, she also confidently committed to an intensive treatment plan involving multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
In the end, all the treatments proved successful: the tumour disappeared completely. In an exceptionally rare outcome, the planned surgery was no longer necessary.
“I truly believe that all the personal growth work I’ve done, combined with the alternative care I received alongside medical treatments, created a winning combination,” she explains.
The Human Support of Palliacco
One of the experiences that transformed Isabelle’s journey was the compassionate and practical support she received from Palliacco, an organization that supports individuals living with illness and their families, throughout the Laurentians.
“Palliacco offers services that are much more than just occasional support. It’s a place where each person is heard and where relationships are built through genuine exchanges,” she says.
Even when Isabelle was unable to attend group meetings, a staff member regularly reached out to check on her.
Palliacco’s gatherings are more than simply listening sessions. They create a real support network, where meaningful conversations, solidarity and shared experiences help people navigate illness with less isolation and greater peace of mind.

A Journey That Inspires
Isabelle’s story highlights the importance of not facing illness alone.
“Hearing other people’s stories and expressing your emotions gives you strength and perspective,” she explains.
In many ways, illness can become a wake-up call — an invitation to change one’s life, heal past wounds, and restore balance between body and mind.
Positive Transformation in the Face of Illness
Today, Isabelle sees cancer not only as an ordeal, but also as an opportunity for profound personal transformation.
The care she received, the support of her community, and her self-healing practices helped her reconnect with herself and her life. They allowed her to regain confidence and rediscover her joie de vivre.
“On the path through illness, human support is essential. Palliacco perfectly demonstrates how solidarity and personalized care can transform a difficult experience into a journey filled with hope, strength, and light,” she
A Precious Life
At the beginning of 2026, Isabelle learned that she was in complete remission from cancer. After this unexpected pause in her life, she can now fully pursue her dreams once again.
She formed a team for “A Trek Under the Stars 2026” fundraising event, and raised $3,480 for Palliacco. She also hopes to organize a benefit concert in support of the organization.
“We never truly know what the future holds. But when we keep our dreams alive despite the obstacles, life somehow finds a way to fully reveal itself,” she concludes, her voice filled with emotion.
